Move over play-to-earn, hello predict-to-earn
Web3 has tried both play-to earnn and move-to earnn, but neither has been very successful. Pooky, a sports prediction app, is trying to make crypto adoption a more interesting endeavor.
According to a press release, Pooky just released a free-to play version of its Web3 soccer prediction system. This launch comes after Pooky’s Oct. 21 closed alpha.
Pooky’s launch at a free-to-play time is not an accident. The platform will be available for use, at least in its initial free version, just days before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar begins on Nov. 20.
The launch of the free version should be accompanied by the world’s largest soccer tournament. Later versions of Pooky will allow you to bet on other sports like basketball and F1.
Pooky was founded in 2022 by two experienced bettors. It hopes to change the way people wager on sports. Claudio and Stefano Riff have extensive gambling industry experience. Pooky was actually inspired by a sportsbook that banned Stefano from their service after a string of big wins.
To enter the prediction game, players will need a Pookyball NFT. The game itself is a leaderboard. Players earn points for correctly predicting soccer game outcomes and scores. You can eventually exchange points for experience points. These points can be used to upgrade Pookyballs and receive bonuses.

Aren’t we already able to predict-to-earn?
Pooky is completely risk-free, which is the main difference between Pooky and other online gambling opportunities. Pookyball NFT is not risky and players can use it to speculate about the outcome of games in the top soccer leagues around the world.
Stefano Riff (cofounder of Pooky) commented on the app’s benefits over traditional sports betting.

“We wanted to create a healthier alternative for traditional sports betting. Pooky encourages social interaction, fun, and community building by going back to the roots in sports prediction.

It will be interesting to see how Web3 fans with an interest soccer take to Pooky during World Cup. And whether the app’s timely release can spur adoption, even in a bear market. Investors see great potential in the reimagined sports betting experience. The startup raised more than EUR3million in a pre-seed round. This included funds from Claster Investments VC as well as other investors.
